The Denver Broncos have added talent to both sides of the ball, but one pundit still has questions about the wide receiver group.
Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox says the Broncos' need for a second receiving option should be their top priority before the season begins.
"The Broncos have a reliable No. 1 receiver in Courtland Sutton. However, they need to establish a second go-to option well ahead of Week 1," Knox said.
The wideout additions have not been remarkable for the Broncos, whose most notable addition was third-round pick Pat Bryant from the University of Illinois. However, there are options available on the current roster.
Marvin Mims Jr. is entering his third season, which means he could be primed for a breakout after a career high in targets, receptions, receiving yards, and touchdowns last season. His 503 yards and six touchdowns were both good for second on the team.
Another option that could prove to emerge is Devaughn Vele at 6'5" 210 lbs, who was second on the team in targets and receptions in his rookie year. It will be difficult to project Vele's production for this season, as the second-year receiver will turn 28 in December.
Knox noted that the most likely go-to option outside of Sutton actually falls in the tight end room, with the new addition of Evan Engram. Engram became a favorite target for developing quarterback Trevor Lawrence during his three seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
His emergence in OTAs and mandatory minicamp is a promising sign for the Broncos, who got little to no production from tight ends last season. That is a good sign that Engram could become the secondary option that Denver needs.
"Opposing defenses will look to take away Sutton this season. Nix's sophomore campaign will go more smoothly if he has a clear second option," Knox said.
