Broncos’ Evan Engram Sends Strong Message to Bo Nix at Tight End U

Evan Engram hasn’t yet caught a pass from Bo Nix in a game, but he already has his quarterback’s back.

The veteran tight end, who has been participating at the highly publicized Tight End U this week, praised the second-year Denver Broncos quarterback ahead of the team’s upcoming training camp.

The Broncos are the 30-year-old’s third NFL team. He was picked 23rd overall by the New York Giants in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft and played his first five seasons there before spending three years with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Engram signed a two-year, $23 million deal with the Broncos in March. He has 496 career catches for 4,922 and 26 receiving touchdowns and one rushing score in 108 career games.

Nix may have only finished third in NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year voting — behind Jayden Daniels and Brock Bowers of the Las Vegas Raiders — but he put the sport on notice by quarterbacking the Broncos to the playoffs for the first time since 2015.

So like Daniels in Washington, veterans like Engram starting lining up to play with the second-year Denver QB.

“I’m really impressed with [Nix],” Engram told FOX News at Tight End U. “The talent’s there. The work ethic is there. I’ve seen it on film [and while] trying to figure out what team I wanted to go to.”

Nix wowed with both his arms and legs, since he completed 66.3 percent of his passes and had a 29/12 touchdown-to-interception ratio. He also finished third on the team in rushing yards (43) and was tied for the team lead in rushing TDs (4) in his rookie season.

Yet, Engram cited an intangible as his favorite thing about his new quarterback.

“My favorite thing about him is his mentality,” Engram said. “The way he thinks; the way he talks to himself, the way he talks to his teammates. The way he is wired upstairs in the brain is really impressive for a kid coming into his second year at the quarterback position.”

Engram had emerged as one of the top tight ends in the game when the Jaguars unceremoniously released him after the 2024 season.

Still, Engram is happy to be in Denver, not just because of Nix.

Though they share the division with 2024 playoff qualifiers, the Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Chargers — and of course, the Chiefs are NFL’s the model franchise — the Broncos should again be in the mix for an AFC playoff spot.

That, along with the potential for the Broncos to expand on their 2024 season, inspired Engram about being in Denver too.

“Just being in that environment with other guys like-minded is just an incredible feeling,” Engram said. “It all correlates. It all fits together. I think we have a great opportunity to do something together really good.”
