Over the weekend the Denver Broncos exercised a few demons by finally defeating the Kansas City Chiefs in a 38-0 romp.
While the game came primarily against Chiefs backups, the Broncos received some much-needed momentum while clinching the final playoff spot in the AFC. Rookie quarterback Bo Nix raced around the stadium on Sunday afternoon, giving a high five to anyone who would reciprocate.
"I learned I've got to run a little more during the week because that's a long lap," Nix joked with reporters after the game. "I was a little tired at the end. The fans deserve it, and it's been a long time coming."
"It's fun to do something like that ... just kind of a great story. And our goal wasn't just to make the playoffs even though it hasn't been done in a while; it's for a lot more than that. We're excited for the opportunity.
While Nix has been somewhat of a revelation for the Broncos, the team's defense has been equally impressive. Denver finished the season with 63 sacks, which was the most in the NFL and a franchise record.
Denver wasn't expected to do much this season after jettisoning Super Bowl-winning quarterback Russell Wilson and drafting Nix, whom some analysts thought was a reach at No. 12. The former Auburn and Oregon quarterback made sure to call out the preseason expectations of the team after clinching a playoff spot.
"You don't have to be what people say you're going to be," he said. "This is when it gets fun.''
Nix and the Broncos will travel to Buffalo for a battle against NFL MVP contender Josh Allen and the Bills.
