Browns Accused Of Head-Scratching Myles Garrett Signing Move

The Cleveland Browns made Myles Garrett one of the highest paid players in the NFL earlier this offseason.

There is no debating how good of a player Cleveland Browns superstar edge rusher Myles Garrett is, but did the team spend too much money on him earlier this offseason?

In a recent article by Yardbarker's Seth Trachtman, he outlines one offseason move made by each team that they could learn to regret. For the Browns, he thinks that re-signing their franchise defender to such a big contract is a bit of a "head-scratcher".

"Arguably the best defensive player in football, Garrett is set to stick around Cleveland after signing a four-year extension," Trachtman wrote. "It's great to keep the franchise player, but the Browns roster is ripe for a rebuild after the consequences of Deshaun Watson's disastrous contract. Spending $40 million per year on a defensive end greatly compromises that effort."

The Browns re-signed Garrett to a four-year, $160 million deal, making him the highest-paid non quarterback in the history of the NFL. The 29-year-old is one of the best players in the league, but the Browns have more problems to worry about.

They have the most quarterbacks of any team in the league with five, but none of them quite stand out at the clear-cut QB1. They have Deshaun Watson, Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, and two rookies in Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel. Watson is currently listed as the starter, but the team might be done with the experiment very soon.

Garrett won NFL Defensive Player of the Year just two seasons ago in 2023, which shows just how dominant he is. While he can certainly try, there is a decent chance that he can't carry the team despite all of their other problems.
