Prior to Week 7 this year, Cleveland Browns left tackle Jedrick Wills Jr. caused concern among fans when he announced he would not play in the upcoming matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals and that it was a "business decision."
He was subsequently benched for poor play.
On Wednesday, Browns coach Kevin Stefanski addressed that comment and the Wills situation at his Wednesday press conference.
“It was a poor choice of words,” Stefanski said, via Daryl Ruiter of 92.3 The Fan. “He did not [mean that]. I know what that phrase means. That’s not how he meant it.”
Stefanski also noted that Wills' decision not to play against the Ravens led to his benching. Wills has not had a good season after undergoing knee surgery in December.
Wills has told reporters he is not fully recovered and is still dealing with cartilage damage.
“I wouldn’t categorize it as a setback,” Stefanski said of Wills. “It hasn’t recovered how quickly he would want it to, and there’s obviously times that you maybe tweak an injury or you feel it again and those type of things, but yeah, it’s been a tough rehab for him.”
