Browns CB Denzel Ward can’t help but pitch that Cleveland should trade for disgruntled Pro Bowler wanting a new contract

The Pro Football Hall of Fame Game kicks off Thursday night, officially signaling the return of football season. And with football back, so too came a major headline in the NFL.

Browns CB Denzel Ward can’t help but pitch that Cleveland should trade for disgruntled Pro Bowler wanting a new contract

Cleveland Browns cornerback Denzel Ward couldn’t help but weigh in on the buzz. He took to X (formerly Twitter) to pitch the idea of the Browns adding a familiar face to him — his former college teammate.

Denzel Ward is all for the Browns trading for Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin

McLaurin reportedly requested a trade Thursday evening, prompting a quick and enthusiastic response from Ward. The two were teammates at Ohio State from 2015 to 2017. While the Browns could certainly use an upgrade at wide receiver, acquiring McLaurin wouldn’t come cheap. Cleveland would not only have to trade for him but also likely extend his contract.

McLaurin has recorded five straight 1,000-yard seasons and is one of the most consistent wide receivers in the league. The Browns currently have Jerry Jeudy as their No. 1 option, with Cedric Tillman or Diontae Johnson potentially filling the No. 2 role this season.

Of course, Cleveland’s most pressing issue remains the quarterback position. But adding another dynamic playmaker like McLaurin would make life easier for whoever lines up under center.

As of now, there is no reported interest from the Browns, and the Commanders are under no obligation to trade a player who is under contract through 2025. Still, one thing is clear: Denzel Ward has made his stance known.
