The Cleveland Browns once again find themselves stuck between a rock and a hard place this offseason. With a QB-blemished cap sheet that gives executives anxiety, a star player wanting out, and a number of holes on the roster, the shakeup for this Browns' front office could go any number of ways.
The Browns will likely have to look to improve via the draft and the trade market given the rough situation that their books give them.
The top priority for this offseason should be addressing the quarterback situation, as there's no clear option left on the roster for next season. What the plan is there is anyone's guess.
Candace Pedraza of Dawg Pound Daily has pointed out a potential route for another hole on the roster to be filled - wide receiver.
Pedraza identified Houston Texans' wideout Stefon Diggs as a potential option for the Browns this offseason. Diggs is slated to hit the free-agent market next month, and Pedraza sees a world in which a reunion between Diggs and Kirk Cousins could make a lot of sense - on paper, anyway.
"Cleveland shouldn't be in the market for any receivers unless they're trying to abide by a request from whoever they sign in free agency as their next starting quarterback," Pedraza wrote. "Diggs would make the most sense as a receiver that falls under that umbrella - he played well alongside Cousins with the Minnesota Vikings, so it'd make sense to add him to a Browns offense in great need of some pop."
Cousins and Diggs are both in their 30s and past their heyday, which doesn't bode well for a potential future for the Browns, who are looking to build for the future. A move like acquiring Diggs (who is coming off a season-ending surgery from his first year in Houston) and Cousins (who was benched in Atlanta) would be an all-in move, and one that would require a number of other win-now pieces, which would cost the Browns draft capital.
Regardless, the Browns do need to address the receiver room in one manner or another. Whether or not Diggs ends up being the answer - or if Diggs is actually interested in Cleveland - time will tell.
