The Cleveland Browns have had a disastrous 2024 season so far as they enter Week 10 with a 2-7 record.
After gaining a slight glimmer of hope following an upset against the Baltimore Ravens, that hope was quickly squashed in a 27-10 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers.
It seems as though the rough start to the season has begun to get to the players as well. When starting safety Juan Thornhill, who is an upcoming free agent, was asked if he would return to the team next season, he was far from confident in his response.
“I don’t know, I’d be lying if I told you I did,” Thornhill said.
Of course, Thornhill's response could also mean that he's simply unsure if the Browns want to bring him back. ... Or, it could be about an "Escape from Cleveland'' scenario as assorted Browns consider jumping off a sinking ship.
Thornhill is in his second season with the Browns after spending the first four years of his career with the Kansas City Chiefs, who he won two Super Bowls with. If the Browns don't make the playoffs, which seems unlikely at this point, it would be the first time in his career that Thornhill has failed to reach the postseason.
After injuring himself in the Browns' Week 1 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, Thornhill spent the following five games on injured reserve. In four appearances this season, Thornhill has 14 total tackles and four passes-defensed.
If Cleveland's struggles continue this season, Thornhill likely won't be the only starter that doesn't return to the team next season.
