Ward earned the honor after he donated $150,000 through his Make Them Know Your Name Foundation which placed 100 automated external defibrillators (AEDs) in non-profits, schools, community organizations, small businesses and houses of worship around the Greater Cleveland area.
Ward created the MTKYN Foundation after his father passed away in 2016 due to cardiac arrest.
“My family and I set up the Make Them Know Your Name Foundation to honor my late father, and we are blessed to continue to honor his legacy by helping make the city of Cleveland a safer place when it comes to heart-related incidents and Sudden Cardiac Arrest,” said Ward in a statement.
In honor of Ward's selection, the NFLPA will now donate $10,000 to his foundation or to the charity of his choice.
Ward, along with the other weekly honorees, is now eligible to win the NFLPA Alan Page Community Award at the end of the season. The award is given to a player who goes above and beyond to perform community service in his hometown or team city.
