Browns' Deshaun Watson Reacts to Jimmy Haslam’s Brutal Take

Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson delivered a cryptic message to team owner Jimmy Haslam, who slammed the quarterback at the NFL annual meetings on Tuesday.

Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam, opened the door. He started to engage in a war of words with quarterback Deshaun Watson and the quarterback did not want to stand silent.

“Let’s address the elephant in the room,” Haslam told reporters. “We took a big swing and miss with Deshaun. We thought we had the quarterback, we didn’t and we gave up a lot of draft picks to get him. So we’ve got to dig ourselves out of that hole.”

Haslam admitted trading for Watson and giving him a fully guaranteed $230 million deal was a mistake, the Browns are set to start a new era.

Watson was in the gym working out when the news of the remark broke. A few hours later he was posting pictures on social media to show his progress. He also shared a short message for his owner to read and it drew plenty of reactions from other players in the league.

"Maybe, if I weren’t built for this, I’d let it phase me," he captioned the post.

Watson has had a tumultuous career with the Browns since he was traded by the Houston Texans. He has posted a 9-10 record with the Browns. His time in Cleveland has been summed up by injuries and legal issues combined with inconsistent play when he was healthy.

The Browns are moving on in 2025 without Watson, who will miss the season with a ruptured Achilles tendon. They will either start Kenny Pickett or a rookie they might draft later this month. The Browns might also seek a Tier II veteran after the draft if they are not happy with their haul.
