Browns’ Kevin Stefanski reveals how Dorian Thompson-Robinson won his spot on the roster

Cleveland Browns have what is their initial 53-man roster and very well could be the same one they suit up with in Week 1 against the Dallas Cowboys.

Browns’ Kevin Stefanski reveals how Dorian Thompson-Robinson won his spot on the roster

The Browns are set to roll with three quarterbacks despite going through the offseason with four at the position that had a legit chance at making the team.

On Thursday morning, the Browns parted ways with veteran quarterback Tyler Huntley, and that signaled that Dorian Thompson-Robinson had officially won the QB3 job. Just how did he do it? Head coach Kevin Stefanski shared why following Thursday’s practice.

“It’s such a competitive roster in general, but that room was very, very competitive, and those guys all had really good moments,” Stefanski explained. “Dorian coming off of his injury, to be able to put himself in position to go play like he did in the games, perform like he did in practice, I think was a big part of it.”

Thompson-Robinson had a pretty good preseason for the Browns and they continue to be high on the quarterback that they selected in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft. The second-year quarterback has improved in the pocket and hardly had to use his legs in the preseason to help him out. Obviously, that dual-threat ability is still there.

In the preseason, Thompson-Robinson completed 37-of-55 passes for 375 yards. Last season, the Browns had DTR make three starts and he was 1-2 during that time. Stefanski said he wasn’t ready to set a depth chart yet, but all signs do point toward DTR being the third quarterback and Jameis Winston being Deshaun Watson’s backup.

The Browns are going to continue to develop Thompson-Robinson through this season at least and if the last couple of years have shown us anything; he better be ready when his name is called.
