The Cleveland Browns' new-look offense had an exciting debut on Sunday, upsetting the Baltimore Ravens, 29-24.
While the Browns' defense had a strong performance, holding Baltimore's offense to under 30 points for the first time since Week 3, their offense ended up making the difference in the win.
Quarterback Jameis Winston was making his first start for the Browns after Deshaun Watson tore his achilles in Week 7. He finished the game with 334 passing yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions.
Winston has now been recognized for his big performance in the upset, as he was named AFC Offensive Player of the Week for Week 8.
It's the first time since Week 4 of 2019 that Winston has earned the honor. At that time, he was starting for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He is also the first Browns quarterback to be named Player of the Week since Baker Mayfield in Week 7 of the 2020 season. Coincidentally, Mayfield is now the starter for Tampa Bay.
Heading into the matchup, the Browns were 1-5, and were fielding one of the worst offenses in the league. Sunday marked the first time in 2024 that the Browns threw for over 200 yards, and the first time they scored over 20 points.
