If you believe ESPN, the guys who are just now entering the Cleveland Browns quarterback room might as we not bother even finding a comfortable chair.
And for the sake of headline-grabbing, that apparently especially applies to Shedeur Sanders.
Cleveland picked quarterback Shedeur Sanders in the fifth round of the recent NFL Draft, ending a wild slide from an expected first or second-round selection.
But the Browns used a third-round pick of quarterback Dillon Gabriel, so there is a pecking order there. Oh, and the Browns now have five quarterbacks on their roster, having signed Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett this offseason, with Deshaun Watson still hanging around.
And now along comes ESPN to hint that a big trade is right around corner.
"The Browns look at the roster through the prism of value and currency, which at least one source pointed out could lead to an eventual trade if injuries happen across the league," ESPN's Jeremy Fowler writes. "Cleveland gave up a third-rounder and two fifth-rounders for Gabriel, Sanders and veteran Kenny Pickett (via trade with Philadelphia). Perhaps the Browns can get a pick back for one of them."
Two points ...
One, "the prism of value and currency'' is gibberish.
Two, ESPN is clearly trying to ride the publicity-garnering mention of Sanders being traded; the Browns have no reason to be thinking about a trade at this time.
Our take is simple, and we'll deliver it in the form of a question: Isn't it a little early to speculate about the Browns trading Shedeur Sanders?
Oh, and one more thing, and this isn't about being anti-Sanders but rather about the realities of the depth chart: Given the fact that 32 teams just passed on him four times each ...
Who in the world would want to give up anything in trade for Shedeur Sanders?
