Browns’ Shocking Statistic Highlights Struggles

Cleveland Browns bye week brings reflection on a season marred by offensive struggles and costly penalties.

The Cleveland Browns (2-7) find themselves in a much-needed bye week, taking stock of a challenging season that’s left them at the bottom of the AFC North standings.

Their recent 27-10 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers underscored Cleveland’s offensive woes, with the unit failing to reach the end zone until late in the game. For a team that’s struggled to establish consistency, the numbers paint a stark picture of the issues plaguing the Browns’ offense.

One particularly eye-catching statistic is that the Browns' offense has been outpaced in total yardage by their own punter. Through nine games, the Browns have accumulated 2,470 total offensive yards, while punter Corey Bojorquez has amassed 2,600 yards on 50 punts.

This anomaly highlights Cleveland's difficulty in sustaining drives, adding to the scrutiny surrounding their offensive inefficiency.

Penalties have been another Achilles' heel for Cleveland. They lead the league in pre-snap penalties with 28, as well as total offensive penalties with 48, resulting in a staggering 336 yards lost.

Additionally, the Browns’ offensive line has struggled to protect the quarterback, surrendering a league-high 43 sacks — 12 more than the next team, the New England Patriots.

Looking ahead, the Browns aim to regroup and refocus, particularly with quarterback Jameis Winston, who stepped in for Deshaun Watson following Watson’s season-ending Achilles injury.

Winston struggled in the Chargers game, throwing three interceptions, and will be working to regain his footing before Cleveland faces the New Orleans Saints.

The Saints, who started strong, have encountered their own turbulence, parting with former head coach Dennis Allen and trading key players like cornerback Marshon Lattimore to the Washington Commanders.
