Boston Bruins legend Brad Marchand has had plenty of success against the Toronto Maple Leafs, especially during the playoffs. Marchand played a major role in the Bruins defeating the Maple Leafs in each of the four series they played against them during his time with Boston. Now, he is only continuing to have success against the Maple Leafs as a member of the Florida Panthers.
Heading into the Panthers' Game 3 matchup against the Maple Leafs, Marchand had one goal and three points in two contests. The former Bruins captain has been red-hot for the Panthers early on this series, and it undoubtedly carried over to Game 3.
Marchand was the Panthers' hero in Game 3, as the 36-year-old forward scored the overtime winner to get the reigning Stanley Cup champions their first victory of the series. With this, the Panthers now trail the Maple Leafs 2-1 in the series and have the opportunity to tie it back up at home in Game 4.
Marchand's goal was a nice one, too, as he showed great patience with the puck in the offensive zone before beating Maple Leafs goaltender Joseph Woll with a wrist shot. He also got a little help on the goal, as his shot deflected off Maple Leafs blueliner Morgan Rielly and went in.
With this massive goal, Marchand now has two goals, eight points, and a plus-8 rating in eight contests for the Panthers this post-season. Clearly, the longtime Bruin is fitting in very nicely with the Panthers, and it will be intriguing to see how he builds on his hot streak from here.
