This Bruins star is heating up at a great time for the Original Six club.
The Boston Bruins picked up a hard-fought 3-0 win against the Minnesota Wild on Feb. 4. It was an excellent all-around performance for the Original Six club, and they are now riding a two-game winning streak because of it.
Bruins star defenseman Charlie McAvoy played a big role in the win, as he scored the eventual game-winner for Boston in the first period. It was a nice goal, too, as he deflected a David Pastrnak shot past Minnesota Wild goalie Marc-Andre Fleury.
With this, McAvoy has now scored in back-to-back games and has a plus-2 rating over that span. The 2016 first-round pick is undoubtedly starting to heat up, and it could not have come at a better time for the Bruins.
It is no secret that the Bruins need as many points as possible right now. At the time of this writing, they are sixth in the Atlantic Division. However, they are just two points behind the third-place Ottawa Senators, one point behind the fourth-place Detroit Red Wings, and tied with the Tampa Bay Lightning. Thus, everything is extremely close right now.
The Bruins missed McAvoy immensely when he was sidelined from Jan. 12 to Jan. 30, but he has been excellent since returning to the lineup. It will be intriguing to see if he can keep this kind of play up from here. If he does, it will certainly help the Bruins' chances of climbing the NHL standings.
