Buccaneers Named Possible Destination For Jalen Ramsey

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have made some savvy moves this offseason, bolstering their roster through strategic free agency picks and draft choices. Given their efforts, they’re poised to make a strong case for a fifth consecutive NFC South title in 2025. It’s entirely plausible that Tampa Bay could emerge as the division favorite once again.

Buccaneers Named Possible Destination For Jalen Ramsey

With the offseason still in full swing, Buccaneers GM Jason Licht has plenty of time to make another splash. Meanwhile, the Miami Dolphins’ Jalen Ramsey recently parted ways with the team to explore potential trades, sparking speculation about possible destinations.

The Buccaneers were recently pegged as a potential landing spot for Jalen Ramsey, according to NFL.com’s Nick Shook. Although Tampa Bay already drafted two cornerbacks, Ramsey’s versatility and ability to play safety could make him an intriguing addition.

“Tampa Bay has had a remarkably productive offseason for a defending division champion, adding young talent to the offense while retaining Lavonte David and welcoming in key veterans on the defensive side in free agency,” Shook continued. “A quick scan of the Bucs’ depth chart reveals one area in which they could use some more help: the secondary, where Jamel Dean and Antoine Winfield reside as their best defenders.”

“Sure, they have young talent at corner; Tykee Smith flashed last season and Zyon McCollum is ascending. Plus, the Bucs did invest two high picks on the position in April’s draft (Benjamin Morrison, Round 2; Jacob Parrish, Round 3),” Shook stated. “So it’s fair to say the Bucs could probably use more help at safety than at corner, and considering Ramsey has previously expressed interest in making that position transition, Tampa might be the perfect place for him to find a valued role with a contender.”

The biggest hurdle in a potential Ramsey trade would be salary cap logistics, as he’s due $25.1 million in 2025. The Buccaneers have around $29.1 million in projected cap space before signing their draft picks, which might provide enough room to maneuver. Ramsey’s contract runs through 2028, but there’s a potential out after the 2025 season.

At 30 years old, Jalen Ramsey brings experience and a proven track record, despite a torn meniscus injury two years ago. While his production remains strong, his hefty contract might be a concern. Last season, he started all 17 games for the Dolphins, racking up 60 tackles, six tackles for loss, one sack, and 11 pass deflections. With a resume that includes a Super Bowl LVI win with the Los Angeles Rams, seven Pro Bowl appearances, and three first-team All-Pro nods in nine years, Ramsey is a highly decorated player.

The BR Rub

Look, Ramsey is a great player. But with that contract, and that he should change positions to being a Safety, this is a hard pass. Yes, he would be an upgrade, but how much of one and for how long?
