The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have a host of roster needs this offseason, and the front office's priority is perhaps the future of receiver Chris Godwin.
With Godwin coming off a nasty ankle injury suffered against the Baltimore Ravens, the Buccaneers offense still continued to click as Liam Coen's unit was the fourth-highest scoring unit in football (29.5 p/g).
So, new offensive coordinator Josh Grizzard might consider Godwin surplus to requirements, although the franchise may want No. 14 to return.
For ESPN's Eric Moody, one move he would like to see this offseason is Godwin reunite with Coen down in Jacksonville.
"Wide receiver Chris Godwin signs with the Jaguars," Moody writes. "The breakout of wide receiver Jalen McMillan and tight end Cade Otton makes Godwin expendable if the Buccaneers want to improve other areas of the team, especially given his injury history. I could see Godwin joining his former offensive coordinator, Liam Coen, and playing alongside Brian Thomas Jr."
The Buccaneers still had success without Godwin, which is likely a big reason for this thought.
Mike Evans (1,004 yards, 11 touchdowns), Cade Otten (600 receiving yards, four touchdowns), Jalen McMillan (461 yards, eight touchdowns and Rachaad White (393 yards, six touchdowns) all helped Baker Mayfield and the passing game.
So Godwin could be moved on, and if the Buccaneers add another weapon in free agency or the draft, then seeing Godwin move on makes sense.
Of course, having Chris stay is the ideal scenario, but his market value per Spotrac.com is a cool $22.5 million APY. That is rather steep, and with a bunch of younger players showing promise, the time might be now to part ways with Godwin.
