Bucs' No. 1 Free Agent Signing Revealed

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers' offseason has been dominated by the contract saga of one player, despite the franchise having over 20 that need to either be re-signed or let go.

Bucs' No. 1 Free Agent Signing Revealed

But out of all the free agents that Todd Bowles will try, and keep, one stands above them all, and it is receiver Chris Godwin.

As the new league year approaches and teams who are hungry for a star receiver begin to circle, the Bucs and Godwin don't appear to be any closer to a new deal than they were a week ago.

Yes, there is still time, but for CBS Sports, the looming signing of Godwin is Tampa Bay's most important piece of business this offseason.

"WR Chris Godwin: Re-signing Ben Bredeson, a new cog of the offensive line, might be the smarter longer-term play," CBS Sports writes. "But Godwin leaving would put plenty of pressure on Jalen McMillan to keep rising."

In truth, Jalen McMillan's rise in the second half of last season will give Buccaneers fans hope that it will continue into 2025, but the lure of having Godwin form a nice trio with Mike Evans and McMillan is an enticing prospect.

But the contract has to be sorted out and we have heard that the franchise wants to have Godwin return, and while we don't know the money involved, we get the sense that barring a big salary demand, that the Buccaneers and Godwin will agree to terms.

However, with the new league year fast approaching, the Buccaneers are running out of time to get the most sought-after free agent in football off the market.
