Bucs' Wirfs Reveals Thoughts on Coen's ‘Crazy’ Move

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Liam Coen saga are now firmly in the rearview mirror, with Coen taking the head coaching role in Jacksonville.

Bucs' Wirfs Reveals Thoughts on Coen's ‘Crazy’ Move

The back-and-forth with Coen staying as a Buc and then traveling to Jacksonville, reportedly in secret, to deal with the Jaguars and become head coach was all very messy.

But time heals all, and now Josh Grizzard is Tampa's new offensive coordinator, having been in charge of the passing game last season under Coen.

However, we haven't heard much about Coen's switch from Buccaneers players aside from Baker Mayfield. Now we do.

Tackle Tristan Wirfs, who spoke with Ari Meirov on NFL Spotlight, detailed how he processed the back-and-forth, with Coen staying and then backflipping and going with the Jaguars.

“It was kind of crazy,” Wirfs said. “The whole O-line was together, we went on a trip, we saw he was back with the Bucs, then we saw no, he was in Jacksonville, and then they tried to block something. It was a whirlwind. It is a business, you don’t know when an opportunity like that to go live your dream and become a head coach is going to come around, we understood. It was crazy, but we wish him success.”

So Mayfield will have a third different offensive coordinator in three years, and under Grizzard, the Buccaneers will hope to push the offense along even further.

Of course, time will tell, but Grizzard has the inside track, having been with the offense last season, and now he is taking control of the ship.

It was an odd few days for the Buccaneers with Coen's backflip, but time heals all, and now the franchise is moving on with Grizzard as its guy.
