Caitlin Clark took the sports world by storm in her WNBA debut season. The 2024 No. 1 overall selection in the WNBA draft carried her collegiate dominance with the Iowa Hawkeyes to the professional level, leading the Indiana Fever back to the playoffs after a seven-year drought.
However, Clark's fame didn't just overtake fans, she's also received love from various athletes following a stellar rookie season. One noteworthy athlete who's made it known she respects Clark's game is one of the greatest tennis players in history, Serena Williams.
Not surprisingly, that respect is mutual, and Clark confirmed as much by naming Serena as the celebrity she'd most like to have dinner with during a recent interview.
Clark has praised Williams publicly before, but there's a chance the WNBA star's wish may come to fruition.
Williams's husband, Alexis Ohanian, replied to the clip of Clark, and let the 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year know that she's always welcome at their home.
Clark and Williams have mentioned each other previously, but it's unknown if they have any type of a friendship. At the 2024 ESPY Awards, Williams called Clark an "amazing player" while hilariously explaining how she's similar to Larry Bird.
Clark became the first female to win the ESPY for Best Record Breaking Performance, and responded by asking: "How did Serena never win that award?"
Arguably the most memorable moment involving the duo came when Williams offered advice to the 23-year-old during an interview with Time.
"I just love that she tries to stay grounded ... If people are negative, it's because they can't do what you do," Williams said of Clark.
It'll be interesting to see if Clark and Williams link up for dinner, but there may be one roadblock that could keep it from happening. Williams recently became a partial owner of the newest WNBA franchise, the Toronto Tempo.
