With the third worthless preseason game tomorrow night, Bucs stud defensive tackle Calijah Kancey may see his first game-type action.
Oh, Joe guesses had he not been hurt, Kancey could have played in one of the two previous worthless preseason games. But since most starters did not play, it is doubtful.
So yesterday facing the Dolphins in a joint practice, Kancey admitted he was stoked. Finally he didn’t have to beat up on Graham Barton or Robert Hainsey or Ben Bredeson or Cody Mauch.
“Really just seeing something different,” Kancey said about what he liked about returning to the practice field. “Those guys [Dolphins offensive line] are actually moving up front, laterally.
“Lining up in front of a different helmet, other than our guys, not knowing what to expect. The first time going against them, [I was] trying to watch a little film from when we scrimmaged like two years ago, I believe, and their last preseason game.
“Going against them and getting the physical reps, I think it was awesome.”
That may be the first time Joe ever heard of a player studying game film to prepare for a joint practice. Now that’s dedication.
Joe really believes Kancey is going to explode this season. So far through his first two training camps, he has missed considerable time with injuries.
Joe doesn’t pretend to know what’s up with that. But Joe does know for this defense to be stout, Kancey has to stay healthy.
