Cam Jordan is returning to the New Orleans Saints for the 2025 season, and he recently detailed his thought process for deciding when it’s time to retire.
It’s no secret that Cam Jordan is close to the end of his career. The veteran defensive end recently signed a new deal with the New Orleans Saints to return for his 15th season— all played with the Saints. The question, though, is how much longer will he play. Many think 2025 will likely be his final season, but he’s not ready to declare that yet.
Jordan recently used his “Off the Edge” podcast to talk about signing a new deal with New Orleans, while also letting fans in on his thought process as far as retirement goes. First, he made it clear that he didn’t want to be anywhere but New Orleans. While he admitted he would play the 2025 season for another team if the Saints decided to move on, he communicated with his agent, and anyone that would listen, that New Orleans is a part of him.
As far as how many years he has left playing the game, Jordan hypothetically said two or three years, before expressing that he’s taking everything one year at a time.
Cam Jordan is taking his future in the NFL one year at a time
While Jordan may be taking things year by year, the writing is seemingly on the wall for the 2025 season to be his final one. He’s only under contract with the Saints for 2025, and the franchise seems like it’s ready to move on from the majority of its core veterans next offseason. If Jordan truly doesn’t want to play for another franchise, and New Orleans decides it doesn’t want to re-sign him next season, retirement will essentially be his only option.
Of course, that timeline could be reworked if Jordan surpasses expectations and has a dominant year in 2025. That seems unlikely, considering that he has six total sacks in 36 games over the last two years, but if he can somehow get back to his Pro Bowl form, he could convince the Saints to give him one more year. Otherwise, 2025 will probably be a farewell tour for the franchise legend.
