Cam Newton attempts to throw shade at Eagles QB Jalen Hurts

Former NFL quarterback Cam Newton refuses to board the Jalen Hurts hype train.

While appearing on his own podcast, 4th & 1 with Cam Newton, Newton ranked his Top 10 NFL quarterbacks, and left the Philadelphia Eagles QB1 off of it.

Newton's reasoning for snubbing Hurts? He has too much talent surrounding him, he claims.

“Jalen Hurts is a great quarterback, but if we’re talking about what they bring to the table, it’s hard to judge what Jalen Hurts can do when you’re throwing to a guy like AJ Brown, DeVonta Smith, you have tight end skillset, you have a dominant defense, the best running back in the game,” Newton said.

“Jalen Hurts does not have to play elite for the Philadelphia Eagles to win. He has to play good, but he doesn’t have to play elite. We’re not asking you to win the game, we’re just asking you not to lose it.”

Hurts still being doubted as an elite quarterback is obnoxious at this point.

He has proven how accurate a quarterback he can be, and he has proven he can run the ball when needed. He's the perfect dual-threat. Not to mention that he has taken his team to the Super Bowl not once, but twice.

It’s also important to remember that Hurts and the Eagles entered 2024 with a lot to prove after dropping a 10-1 start to their season just one year ago and went on to win a Super Bowl. Sure, Hurts might not light up the stat sheet like some of the other great quarterbacks, but the guy knows how to win.

There's no doubt he'd find a way to win even without the best running back and wide receiver duo surrounding him.
