Former NFL MVP Cam Newton knows a thing or two about playing quarterback at the highest level, but Philadelphia Eagles fans might not agree with his latest take.
During a recent episode of his 4th & 1 podcast, Newton said he would take Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott over Eagles star Jalen Hurts.
"I prefer Dak over Jalen Hurts," Newton said as he ran down a list of quarterbacks while discussing Prescott's potential contract extension.
Newton didn't revisit the topic, and Eagles fans will likely want an explanation, especially since it involves the starting QB of Philly's most-headed rival.
Prescott has had his highs in the NFL, but his career has also featured many lows and no NFC Championship or Super Bowl appearance. Hurts, on the other hand, helped lead the Eagles to Super Bowl LVII. He finished the heartbreaking loss to the Kansas City Chiefs with 304 passing yards and one touchdown to go along with 15 carries for 70 yards and three rushing scores.
Many critics of Hurts might point to his bloated rushing touchdown numbers as a reason for his overrated label. Hurts benefited greatly from the controversial "Tush Push" this past season by setting a career-best 15 rushing scores, many of which came right at the goal line among a pile of bodies on a play that's hardly considering sexy.
Like the entire team, he had his struggles during the final stretch of the season, but he should remain slightly above Prescott on any QB rankings list until further notice.
