Cam Ward, the top QB in college football last season, wants teams to know he will remember if they pass on him.
With the Super Bowl now in the rearview mirror, teams will focus on the 2025 NFL Draft. There are several teams that will be looking to bring in some reinforcements, with the Tennessee Titans in possession of the number one overall pick.
After a thrilling college football season that saw Ohio State claim the national championship, several young players made their marks.
Names like Shedeur Sanders, Travis Hunter, Cam Ward, and Abdul Carter made a major impact in the collegiate circuit this past year.
But one of these names has taken matters into his own hands, issuing a warning to all NFL teams that are considering passing him over.
College prospect sends a message
Cam Ward had a strong season with the University of Miami. He broke the NCAA career touchdowns record in the first half of the Pop-Tarts Bowl.
However, Ward thinks that there are teams who will ignore his accomplishments. And as such, he warned them that he would remember any team that passes him up.
“OK, you’re either going to draft me or you’re not. If you don’t draft me, that’s your fault. You’ve got to remember you’re the same team that’s got to play me for the rest of my career, and I’ll remember that.”
It’s good to see that Ward has a chip on his shoulders. Most great players in the NFL do, and it helps them find a lot of success.
However, this type of edict could send the message that Ward is impetuous and in over his head, which could dissuade teams from taking him.
Cam Ward would thrive on any NFL team
Ward made the above comments a day before winning the Davey O’Brien Award, awarded to the top college quarterback in the country.
He has shown that he can play at a high level, throwing for 4313 yards and 39 touchdowns. Teams like the Titans, Giants, and even the Jets are looking for a new quarterback and could try and make a move for Ward.
However, he faces competition from Shedeur Sanders, who is also a top quarterback prospect. Shedeur’s lineage, given that he is the son of NFL legend Deion Sanders, gives him an edge from an off-the-field perspective, as teams will relish the idea of selling a lot of jerseys with Sanders on the back.
Ward will no doubt go to a team in the top 10, as at least four teams out of the 10 that pick first need a new quarterback. But if Ward works out to be a star in the NFL, the teams that choose not to take him could pay the price, as he would play against them while holding a grudge.
