In the final moments of the Washington Commanders' Week 16 win over the Philadelphia Eagles, cameras caught a moment of gamesmanship between Jalen Carter and Jayden Daniels.
With the contest out of reach for the Eagles, that didn't stop Carter from having some fun and trying to slap the ball away from Daniels on the game's final snap.
Carter, a 23-year-old defensive tackle, is seen diving flat on the field and swiping between the legs of Washington's center, Tyler Biadasz, in an attempt to force a fumble. The Commanders were in victory formation, signaling they would kneel to run out the clock.
The cameras cut to Daniels, the Commanders' rookie quarterback, pointing and laughing at Carter as the defender laughs right back. The two first played against each other in 2022, when Daniels' LSU Tigers lost against Carter's Georgia Bulldogs in the SEC Championship Game, 50-30.
On Sunday, Carter had three tackles. Daniels passed for 258 yards, five touchdowns, and two interceptions.
Washington lost to Philadelphia in Week 11, 26-18. In that game, Carter collected seven tackles and one tackle for loss. Daniels passed for 191 yards, one TD, and one INT.
The Commanders (10-5) are the NFC's No. 7 seed and will clinch a playoff berth with a win next week against the Atlanta Falcons.
The Eagles (12-3) can still earn home-field advantage but will need help from the Detroit Lions (13-2) in the form of losing both of their games and the Minnesota Vikings to lose next week. One more Philadelphia win would clinch the NFC East and the No. 2 seed.
