Mike Tyson has been backed by UFC legend Daniel Cormier to achieve something that has never been seen in boxing history when he faces off against YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul.
Cormier: What if Tyson knocks out Jake Paul?
Their highly anticipated bout is set for November 15, following a postponement earlier this year due to a medical emergency for Tyson.
Despite his age, Tyson is determined to prove that he still has what it takes to compete at the highest level.
The 58-year-old former heavyweight champion has been intensifying his training ahead of the fight, posting videos on social media showing his explosive hand speed and renowned punching power.
Tyson, who hasn't fought professionally since 2005, looks focused and determined to make a statement in what could be his final ring appearance.
Cormier, however, has expressed concern over the match, pointing to the stark age difference between Tyson and his 28-year-old opponent.
"I understand that [he looks good at 58], and I get what he's saying [he feels great]," Cormier said, acknowledging Tyson's impressive efforts in training camp.
Cormier explained that Paul's youth gives him a significant edge over Tyson, especially if the fight extends into the later rounds.
"It might look like a 58-year-old man fighting a 28-year-old man," he said.
He highlighted that while Tyson still looks powerful, Paul has the advantage of being able to draw on his "reserve tank" to finish strong.
But what if Tyson pulls off the unthinkable? Cormier teased the possibility of Tyson delivering a knockout that could change everything.
"What if Mike knocks him out? Then it's over. Everything's done," he stated, suggesting that such a knockout would mark an unprecedented moment in boxing history.
A victory for Tyson, especially in this fashion, would cement his legacy and send shockwaves through the boxing world.
Netflix to release Paul vs Tyson docuseries
This will be Tyson's first fight since his 2020 exhibition against fellow boxing legend Roy Jones Jr., which ended in an unofficial draw.
However, this time the stakes are higher, with millions of fans eager to see if Tyson can defy the odds once again.
In the lead-up to the fight, Netflix will air Countdown: Paul vs. Tyson, a docuseries offering fans a behind-the-scenes look at both fighters' preparation.
The series, premiering November 7, will follow Tyson's journey back to the ring and Paul's readiness for the biggest test of his career.
The fight card will also feature the much-anticipated rematch between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano, adding another layer of excitement to the event.
