The Washington Capitals earned an impressive 3-2 win in Columbus over the Blue Jackets in the penultimate game of the preseason as well as the final game of the month of September and the final preseason road game. The last preseason game takes place this Saturday against the Boston Bruins from Capital One Arena.

Nic Dowd put the Caps up 1-0 at 6:49 with assists from Brandon Duhaime and Taylor Raddysh. Denon Mateychuk scored at 7:12 to tie the game.

48 seconds into the second period Tom Wilson gave the Caps the lead with assists from Trevor van Riemsdyk and Pierre-Luc Dubois. Then PLD scored at the buzzer on the power play with Wilson and Ivan Miroshnichenko assisting there.

Luca Del Bel Buelluz made it a 3-2 game at 14:58 in the third period but that would be as close as they would get. Logan Thompson got the nod in goal and he once again was solid as he stopped 24 shots. Jakub Vrana also had two shots and drew a penalty.

The Caps are remaining in Columbus until Thursday for some team building exercises as well as practice. "I feel good," Thompson told the media. "Like Dubi (PLD) said it was going to be a harder day to travel and all that so I didn't feel great but I think it's a great team win in the end and I think it just shows how tight we are and we pulled together and got the two points."

It's tough, I feel like we haven't played for a while, it almost felt like our first one over again a bit at the end of the first period. But as the game went on we built our game a little bit and we're all good skaters. Dube is good up the middle so I feel it's one of those things that will just keep getting better and better as we get more comfortable and as we get our legs and our timing and everything.
