Capitals Make More Cuts, Waive Frank, Häman Aktell & Others As Training Camp Competition Heats Up

The Capitals put a handful of promising names on waivers for assignment to Hershey.

The Washington Capitals made some more difficult decisions on Saturday, using their off day to trim their training camp roster. And this time around, there were some notable names that had to go on waivers.

Per PuckPedia, Washington waived Ethen Frank, Alex Limoges, Riley Sutter, Chase Priskie and Hardy Häman Aktell for the purpose of reassigning them to the AHL's Hershey Bears. If they clear, they will join the Bears for the start of their training camp.

Frank sees his preseason run come to an end after an underwhelming showing through training camp, where he was poised to compete hard for an NHL spot this time around. However, he went without a point in three preseason outings and was a minus-5.

The AHL All-Star is coming off a 29-goal season for Hershey and has scored 30 before with Hershey, and it is very much possible that he could be claimed by a team looking to add some forward depth.

That could also be the case for the likes of Limoges and Sutter, who were both fundamental in securing the team's second consecutive Calder Cup.

On the blue line, Priskie returns to Hershey as expected in order to play a top role down there, and Häman Aktell is another young player who shows promise and could play a bigger role this season. Both have a lot of upside — Häman Aktell had a lot of interest as a free agent before signing with Washington — so the waiver wire is definitely something to keep an eye on.

Other notable names remaining on the roster at this time include Jakub Vrana, Ivan Miroshnichenko, Andrew Cristall and Henrik Rybinski.
