Celtics ‘One Hundred Percent’ Receiving Trade Calls on Two Star Players

The Boston Celtics face a busy summer. Brad Stevens is expected to make multiple changes to the roster, as he looks to get the team below the second luxury tax apron.

Kristaps Porzingis, Jrue Holiday and Sam Hauser are all viewed as the most logical trade chips. However, ESPN’s Shams Charania recently reported that Boston is “one hundred percent” receiving big trade offers for Derrick White and Jaylen Brown.

“However, now are teams making big offers and calling about Jaylen Brown and Derrick White? One hundred percent,” Charania said. “The Celtics prefer not to trade them, from my understanding, but listen, if they get a big offer, they have to look at everything. And I think they’re going to get, you know, offers on the three guys that they’re focused on. They’re going to get offers potentially on Derrick White and Jaylen Brown. And I think between now and the draft and free agency, they’re going to evaluate what makes sense from a value perspective.”

Right now, the only untouchable player in the Celtics rotation is Jayson Tatum. Even then, Tatum is unlikely to play next season. He suffered an Achilles tendon tear against the New York Knicks in the playoffs.

Trading Brown or White wouldn’t go down well with the fanbase. Nevertheless, Stevens hasn’t put a foot wrong since moving into his front office role. So, there would undoubtedly be an element of trust in his decision-making.

Celtics Urged to Keep Hold of Porzingis

Since joining the Celtics in the summer of 2023, Porzingis has become somewhat of a fan favorite. When he’s on the court, he takes Joe Mazzulla’s team to a different level. Unfortunately, his tenure with the franchise has been marred by injuries, especially in the postseason.

According to an anonymous NBA Front Office member, who spoke with Heavy on Sports’ Steve Bulpett under the condition of anonymity, the Celtics should avoid parting ways with the veteran big man this summer.

“Unless they know something about Porzingis that we don’t, I don’t see how they can let him go,” The front office member said. “When Boston was right, he’s a major factor and they win. Yeah, he wasn’t a huge part of what they did in the playoffs last year. Because of the matchups, it didn’t hurt them that bad when he missed a bunch of games.”

They continued.

“But then you look and see, he scored well when he did play, and he was giving them a couple of blocks a game in limited minutes. He gives you something you can’t really guard. He opens up their offense, and he gives them so much at the rim on the other end of the floor.”

Porzingis is entering the final year of his contract. He will have value on the trade market. So, unless the Celtics plan on giving him a new deal, the franchsie would be better served trading him, rather than losing him for nothing next summer.

Jaylen Brown Recently Underwent Surgery

Another wrinkle in the Celtics’ summer plans is that Brown recently underwent arthroscopic surgery on his knee. That would make trading the All-Star forward more difficult for the Celtics front office.

“Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee and is expected to be ready for 2025-26 training camp,” ESPN’s Shams Charania reported via X.

Brown is one of Boston’s best players. It would take a mammoth offer to bring Stevens to the negotiating table. Nevertheless, every player has their price, especially this summer, as far as the Celtics are concerned.
