Just as a heads-up, Cade Horton is scheduled to pitch for Iowa tomorrow (Friday).
A whole lotta rain today. But also some baseball.
Iowa Cubs
The Iowa Cubs were boarded and seized by the Columbus Clippers (Guardians), 6-4 in ten innings.
The I-Cubs wasted a strong start from Thomas Pannone. Pannone gave up just one run on four hits over six innings. He struck out seven and walked no one.
The Clippers tied it up with two unearned runs in the eighth inning on two errors while Porter Hodge was on the mound. Hodge’s final line was two unearned runs on one hit and one walk over 1.1 innings. He struck out three.
Carl Edwards Jr. gave up a three-run home run to Johnkensky Noel in the top of the tenth to take the loss. In Edwards defense, the pitch was a curveball that was out of the zone and low and away. Noel was just sitting on a curve, I guess. The final line on Edwards was three runs, two earned, on four hits and a walk. He did not have a strikeout.
Right fielder David Peralta led off the bottom of the first inning with a solo home run, his second on the season. Peralta went 2 for 2 with a walk and a stolen base.
Second baseman David Bote hit two solo home runs this afternoon. One came in the second inning and the other one came in the fourth. Bote was 2 for 4. He has three home runs on the year.
Seiya Suzuki served as the DH for six innings and was 0 for 3 with one strikeout.

Tennessee Smokies
Postponed because of wet fields in Chattanooga. They’ll play a doubleheader tomorrow (Friday).
South Bend Cubs
The South Bend Cubs were popped by the Cedar Rapids Kernels (Twins), 8-1 in a game that ended after five innings because of rain.
The Kernels rocked starter Tyler Santana for eight runs on ten hits over 3.2 innings. Santana walked one and struck out two. He gave up at least one run in every inning he pitched.
DH Yohendrick Pinango went a perfect 2 for 2 with a walk, extending his hitting streak to 15 games. Pinango’s infield single in the third inning scored Brett Bateman for South Bend’s only run. Bateman went 1 for 3 with a stolen base.
Third baseman Reivaj Garcia was 2 for 3 with a stolen base.
The rest of South Bend’s lineup went 0 for 11 with a walk.
Myrtle Beach Pelicans
The Myrtle Beach Pelicans were shut out by the Augusta GreenJackets (Braves), 2-0 in 12 innings.
Marino Santy gave the Pelicans a great start with five scoreless innings, giving up just three hits. He struck out nine and walked just two. He did hit one batter.
None of the next three Pelicans relievers allowed a hit. Marino Santy pitched one inning, Dominic Hambley pitched two and Kenyi Perez gave the Birds three scoreless innings.
Shane Marshall came on to pitch the 12th inning and took the loss after allowing a bases-loaded two-out, two-run single. One of the two runs was unearned, of course. Marshall allowed one hit and walked two. He struck out one.
The Pelicans pitchers combined to strike out 23 batters.
But the Birds could do almost nothing on offense, totalling just five singles and two walks over 12 innings.
