The Kansas City Chiefs are embarking on yet another AFC Championship game under the guidance of Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes , with the Buffalo Bills coming to Arrowhead for a shot at a Super Bowl.
Since Mahomes and Reid joined forces, the Chiefs have gone to what will now be seven straight AFC Championship games, and the Kansas City roster is packed full of experienced veterans who have been here all too often.
But there are a host of players, including veteran DeAndre Hopkins, along with rookie Xavier Worthy, who have never experienced what they are about to against Buffalo.
“That's kind of a neat deal,” Reid said. “DeAndre [Hopkins], he's been doing it 12 years, and I said you never been to this one, have you, and he said no. So for him to have that opportunity to experience that part as great as he is, will be new for him. For the young guys, it'll be a good experience for them, they can learn from it, and we'll tell them what it's all about, the players will tell them what it's all about, but until you get out there and feel that energy you really don't know, but it'll be good for them to get through it.”
So Hopkins and others will get their first taste of championship football against the Bills as the Chiefs aim to reach the Super Bowl for the third straight season.
The Bills handed the Chiefs their first loss of the season in Week 11 with a 30-21 win, but Allen is 0-3 in the postseason against Mahomes and lost to him at home last year.
So there is a lot riding on this contest, and we are so used to seeing the Chiefs at this stage of the season, that we forget there are some players who are new to this experience.
And we imagine that regardless fo the outcome, it will be one they won't forget.
