The Kansas City Chiefs are heading into the NFL offseason after a disappointing finish to their pursuit of a third straight Super Bowl title.

Chiefs Confirm Roster News With Big Announcement on Friday

Kansas City suffered a blowout loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl after entering the playoffs with a 15-2 record and the No. 1 seed in the AFC.

They finished the year with a 17-3 record, defeating the Buffalo Bills and the Houston Texans in the postseason.

After a brutal loss for the Eagles in the Super Bowl, free agency seemed to be the biggest conversation around Kansas City.

On Friday, the Chiefs announced that they have signed offensive lineman Trey Smith to a non-exclusive franchise tender.

Smith has been with the Chiefs since 2021. He was drafted by the Chiefs in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft after competing with the Tennessee Volunteers from 2017-2020.

Smith was named to his first Pro Bowl in 2024 and has won two Super Bowl rings in his four seasons. He's an anchor on the Chiefs' offensive line alongside First-Team All-Pros Joe Thuney and Creed Humphrey.

The non-exclusive franchise tag allows Smith to sign an offer sheet with another organization, but Kansas City has the right to match the offer or receive two first-round draft picks if his departure goes through.
