Per Matt Derrick, the Chiefs released linebacker Cole Christiansen but they re-signed him to the practice squad right away.
If he was released after Tuesday, Christiansen would have had to pass through waivers. He was a free agent due to the fact that he was released right before the trade deadline.
The 27-year-old first joined the Chiefs back in 2022 after he spent two seasons with the Los Angeles Chargers. He spent the majority of his time on the practice squad but made 12 regular-season appearances. Six of them happened in 2024.
Christiansen was elevated to the active roster ahead of Week 3 and played in 62% of the special teams snaps since then. This is a minor move for the Chiefs as they get ready to match up against the Denver Broncos.
Kansas City didn't have Juju Smith-Schuster and Tershawn Wharton participate in Wednesday's practice. They have a couple of more practices until game day and hopefully can get these guys back in the fold.
