Kansas City Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt has hit his stride in the last two games, and he has revealed why he's been able to play so well.
The Kansas City Chiefs continued their undefeated start to the season, with a gritty 28-18 win over the San Francisco 49ers at Levi's Stadium with running back Kareen Hunt playing an important role.
Signing after the start of the season due to Isiah Pacheco's injury, many thought it would take Hunt a while to get used to Andy Reid's system.
But the veteran has been like a duck to water and has shown his worth in his three games this season. His 78-yard, two-touchdown game against the 49ers shows what he can do against a stout defensive front as he wore down one fo the better defenses in football.
“Definitely get more comfortable each week,” Hunt said. “I demand myself to get better and better, and I give it up to [the] O-Line for helping me get the pushes to get in there.”
"Demand'' is a powerful word for Hunt, who was a bruising force against the 49ers, with 22 carries, averaging 3.5 yards per rush.
With Kareem, the bell cow, and having Patrick Mahomes (39 rush yards), Carson Steele (17 yards), and Mecole Hardman (38 yards) chip in, too, Kansas City rolled to 184 yards on the ground, the most given-up by the 49ers' defense, all season.
So while Mahomes and the offense struggled through the air, on the ground, they managed to wear down Nick Sorensen's defense, thanks in part to Hunt's brutal running style.
While the Chiefs have yet to hit their stride, one part of their game has clicked: the rushing attack has exceeded 100 yards in five of their six games.
Many thought the Chiefs' run game would struggle without Pacheco, but it appears to be as potent as ever, with Hunt now hitting his straps.
