Chiefs Linebacker Leo Chenal Earns AFC Honor After Game-Winning Play

Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Leo Chenal earned a big honor in the AFC after his game-winning play.

The Kansas City Chiefs will look to stay undefeated on Sunday when they travel to face the Buffalo Bills.

Although the Chiefs are 9-0, they were one play away from suffering their first loss last week against the Denver Broncos until linebacker Leo Chenal blocked a game-winning field goal attempt to keep Kansas City's undefeated season alive.

On Wednesday, Chenal was recognized for the massive play by being named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week. According to the NFL, Chenal is the second player in the last 10 seasons to block a game-winning field goal on the final play.

This is the first time Chenal has won the honor, and also the first time since 2015 that a Chiefs defender earned Special Teams Player of the Week when linebacker D.J. Alexander was recognized.

Chenal now also joins defensive tackle Chris Jones as the only Chiefs player to earn a weekly award so far this season. Jones was named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week in Week 4.

Following Chenal's massive play, coach Andy Reid gave the linebacker high praise.

"It ended up being one of those kinds of games, back and forth," Reid said "They arguably take it down the field for the winning kick, and then Leo steps up and does what Leo does every week: somewhere, he makes a play. Defensively, on special teams, somewhere he steps up and makes a play. He did a great job with that."
