Let's get it on. The Philadelphia Eagles' first Super Bowl win came by way of toppling the greatest dynasty we've ever seen, Their next may come by halting the greatest run in NFL history. Ladies and gentlemen, we welcome you to a TRUE rematch.
This isn't two teams playing on football's grandest stage before meeting several months later to tussle to a 21-17 result sometime in November. If you remember, that was the last 'rematch'. which would probably be better described as a grudge natchg.
Philly beat the Kansas City Chiefs, and somewhow we don't really feel vindicated. This time will be different. As was the case in Super Bowl LVII, the Birds and Chiefs compete for a Vince Lombardi Trophy.
We got what we wanted, the AFC's best vs. the NFC's best. Stars are all over the place. Let's get ready to rumble
Believe it or not, there are Chiefs not named Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce who are worth the Eagles' attention.
We'll have a full week to discuss Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, Andy Reid, and Taylor Swift. We refuse to do so at this very instant. We all know how good the players and coaches are. We're very much aware that Travis Kelce has a very famous girlfriend.
Taylor Swift is from West Reading and grew up an Eagles fan by the way!
So, here we sit, discussing strategy and ready to paint you a picture. Believe it or not there are other Chiefs on the offensive roster.
Philly's most difficult challenge has been saved for its final one. Let's hope our Birds can end Kansas City's reign of terror.
Here's a list of a handful of Chiefs that we're certain is being discussed in every Philadelphia Eagles team discussion and defensive meeting room.
Kareem Hunt, running back
Kareem Hunt is K.C.'s leading rusher, both during the post and regular season. Mahomes can do damage as a runner, but in obvious running situations, it's this guy or Isiah Pacheco.
Xavier Worthy, wide receiver
We remember where we were when we heard the Chiefs drafted Xavier Worthy, and our immediate response was 'How did the NFL allow the Chiefs to draft Xavier Worthy?'. Our guy Quinyon Mitchell can keep up with him, but there's a chance most of K.C.'s passing plays will be funneled to this guy or Travis Kelce.
Worthy and Kelce have combined for 20 receptions, 266 yards receiving, a pair of TDs, and the production is close to being an even split.
JuJu Smith-Schuster, wide receiver
There's something about JuJu that we don't trust. Maybe there are too many syllables in his name. You can never trust a man whose name is that long.
Maybe it was the holding call of two years ago. Then again, it could be seeing the refs change how they officiated football's most important game when we were in crunch time. Maybe it was seeing JuJu strut like he was actually going to come down with the ball had James Bradberry not tugged on his jersey.
The truth is JuJu is average at best, but he's capable of making one or two plays that could cause some issue and raise the stress level.
We could also name other X-factors. There's Hollywood Brown, Samaje Perine, and, dare we say, DeAndre Hopkins, but Smith-Schuster is probably worth more of a conversation.
Creed Humphrey, center
As boring as it is to mention a center, here's one we ought to mention. How will the Jalen Carter battle go vs. the Chiefs' O-line's interior?
Creed Humphrey is perhaps the best center in the game now that Jason Kelce has retired, and the guys to his right and left are pretty stout too.
Joe Thuney, left guard
Jalen Carter will see his chances to wreck a few plays, but he may also see some double teams. It wouldn't shock us. As we know, Howie Roseman's blueprint of roster building was learned during his days of working alongside Andy Reid.
Like Howie, Big Red builds his teams with a trench-first mindset. The result? Creed Humphrey and Joe Thuney are both Pro Bowlers and 1st-Team All-Pros. The right guard Trey Smith is also a Pro Bowler, but at the very least, the war on the inside may open doors for the Eagles edge rushers to eat.
