Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes Grades Pro Bowler's Debut

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and coach Andy Reid gave their thoughts on Pro Bowl left tackle D.J. Humphries' team debut against the Los Angeles Chargers.

The Kansas City Chiefs escaped yet another close contest with a victory on Sunday night, defeating the Los Angeles Chargers, 19-17, to clinch the AFC West for the ninth-straight year.

The Chiefs secured the victory with a walk-off "doink" field goal by kicker Matthew Wright. The 31-yard kick was set up by a game-winning drive from Patrick Mahomes and the offense.

One player who was not on the field for their final drive was Pro Bowl left tackle D.J. Humphries, who was making his Chiefs debut in his first game since suffering a torn ACL in 2023. Humphries left the game late with a hamstring injury, but still logged 60 snaps.

After the game, Mahomes gave his honest thought on Humphries' debut.

“I thought he did a good job," Mahomes said. "I mean, there are little things here and there. He’s still learning the playbook, so he knows how to pass protect, that’s the easy part – he knows how to run block... He did a good job today."

According to Next Gen Stats, Humphries surrendered eight pressures on 40 pass blocking snaps, which is a number the Chiefs certainly hope goes down. Coach Andy Reid also gave his thoughts on Humphries' first game action in almost a year.

“I think initially it was fast for him, then he settled down and I thought the second half he was playing well," Reid said. "I mean, he hasn’t done anything with that kind of speed out there, and then the physical part... So, he did a nice job.”
