Chiefs WR Rashee Rice Carted to Locker Room After Hit From QB Patrick Mahomes

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice suffered what appeared to be a knee injury late in the first quarter of Kansas City’s Week 4 game against the Los Angeles Chargers. The injury occurred when quarterback Patrick Mahomes attempted to tackle Chargers cornerback Kristian Fulton — who intercepted Mahomes’s first-down pass intended for tight end Travis Kelce — and made contact with Rice’s left leg.

After sitting on the sideline for a couple of minutes, Rice was carted to the locker room.

Several minutes after he went to the locker room, Rice was ruled out for the remainder of the game.

At halftime, head coach Andy Reid was asked by the CBS broadcast if he knew any details regarding Rice’s injury.

“No, but it’s not good,” Reid said.

X Users Reacted to Rashee Rice’s Injury

Users on X — formerly Twitter — reacted to Rice’s injury in Week 4.

“Mahomes overthrows Kelce, but the biggest mistake is trying to bring down the returner by turning your head, dropping your shoulder low & taking your eyes off the target,” Laurie Horesh of ESPN wrote. “Mahomes misses the mark, but ploughs into Rashee Rice’s knee who’s then carted off.”

“If Rashee Rice is seriously injured, the Chiefs will have a worse offense than either of the past two years,” Adam Best of Arrowhead Addict wrote. “Kelce slowing down a bit. [Isiah] Pacheco hurt. Hollywood [Brown] out. Juju [Smith-Schuster is] not the same. They are gonna have to make a trade. Can’t put this much on rookie Xavier Worthy’s shoulders.”

“Mahomes must be an idiot. What was his thought process behind that tackle? Injuring the one safe pair of hands he has in that receiving corps,” another person wrote. “Poor Rashee Rice, it looks serious given how inconsolable he was going off the field.”

“With Rashee Rice likely out for the foreseeable future and Hollywood Brown already out for the season, it looks like the Chiefs are going to be in big trouble for the rest of the year,” another person wrote. “Mahomes looks subpar, and Carson Steele is prone to fumbling. This could be the beginning of the end for the Chiefs.”

“Lock Rashee Rice, Rashee Rice gets hurt by Mahomes on a pick he threw…. WTF is happening this year in the NFL. The injuries are just crazy this year,” another person wrote.

“I don’t think I’ve ever seen a QB tear his own receivers knee up but that’s exactly what Patrick Mahomes just did to Rashee Rice trying to make a tackle on a defender after an INT… Dove right into Rashee Rice knee & alliterated his knee,” another person wrote.

Chiefs Trailing Chargers at Halftime 10-7

After kicker Harrison Butker missed a 65-yard field goal just before halftime, the Chiefs trailed the Chargers 7-10 at halftime.

Mahomes completed 11-of-17 pass attempts for 149 yards, one touchdown, and had the one interception in the first half. Kelce led all Chiefs pass catchers with a season-high five catches for 74 yards through two quarters. Running back Kareem Hunt led the team in rushing during the same timeframe with five rush attempts for 25 yards.
