Kansas City Chiefs rookie receiver Xavier Worthy has been a little up and down form-wise in Year 1, and that is part and parcel of the journey that young players go on in the NFL.
While there have been moments where Worthy has shown flashes of his talent, the consistency that most crave has alluded him through 10 games.
But for every rookie, there is a moment when things feel like everything clicks, and it can push them to greater heights. Worthy's came in the AFC heavyweight showdown against the Buffalo Bills.
On one drive, Worthy had receptions of 31, six, 14, and a 10-yard touchdown as the Chiefs got their first points of the contest, and Xavier has revealed that was his moment of growth.
“I feel like I’m starting to get more comfortable, get a feel for the game,” Worthy said. “Understanding more leverage, more coverage. I feel like that’s just me showing my growth.”
Worthy's efforts in the 31-20 loss to Buffalo were one of his better outings, with his four receptions being a joint-career high and his 61 receiving yards being the second-highest total he's had through 10 games.
Now is the time for Worthy to build some consistency into his game, as there have been times this season where he is barely sighted and only has a couple of receptions, and even in the case against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he didn't register a single reception.
However, now that his Bills performance has lifted his confidence, maybe Worthy can use that as a springboard to finish the rest of the season strongly.
And if he can, they will add yet another layer to the Chiefs' offense as they chase a historic three-peat.
