Chris Godwin: Buccaneers Wide Receiver Dynasty Outlook

Chris Godwin had his 2024 season cut short after breaking his ankle in a Monday Night Football game against the Baltimore Ravens which leads to questions about his dynasty outlook. However, those who are concerned shouldn’t be worried about the 28-year-old wide receiver.

Godwin finished the 2024 season as the WR49 (standard) and WR51 (PPR). However, you can take it with a grain of salt as he only played seven games. He averaged 12.5 fantasy points in standard leagues and 19.7 fantasy points in PPR leagues. If he continued at the pace he was on prior to the injury, Godwin would’ve finished as the WR2 in both formats. His pace would’ve had him right behind Ja’Marr Chase and just ahead of Justin Jefferson.

Make no mistake about it: the Tampa Bay Buccaneers made sure Godwin got the ball. Even with missing 11 games, Godwin was still third on the team in total targets. He recorded 62 targets through seven weeks, just under nine per game. Of the targets he saw, Godwin posted an 81% catch rate with 50 receptions.

Todd Bowles and the Buccaneers knew Godwin was a big part of the offense, and he posted great numbers until his injury. He will be a major piece for dynasty teams going forward, and he could easily be a top 10 receiver next year.

Chris Godwin Dynasty Price

There are two sources to keep in mind when looking at Godwin’s dynasty price. KeepTradeCut has him ranked as the WR36 for dynasty and the 86th best player overall. Even with his injury, there are not 35 wide receivers and 85 players better than Godwin. This list has him behind players like Keon Coleman and Jayden Reed.

Fantasytradecalc has a list of all trades involving him, whether he was the only piece being dealt or included in a package. The majority of trades are showing people expect his value to remain high. One deal packaged him with a first and second rounder in 2025 for Malik Nabers while another trade saw him be acquired with a 2027 first rounder in exchange for a 2025 first-round pick.

Godwin’s dynasty price isn’t low right now by any means. However, this is probably the lowest it will be as he is set for free agency.

Chris Godwin Contract and Projected Salary

Spotrac is showing Godwin’s market value to be $22.6 million per year with an expected three-year contract worth $67.6 million. As things stand currently, 20 of the 32 teams can mathematically sign Godwin without putting themselves over the salary cap. The Buccaneers could retain Godwin, but there is work to do. There are currently 11 teams in need of wide receivers either in free agency or the draft.

  • AFC: Denver Broncos, Las Vegas Raiders, New England Patriots, New York Jets, Pittsburgh Steelers, Tennessee Titans
  • NFC: Carolina Panthers, Dallas Cowboys*New Orleans Saints*, Buccaneers, Washington Commanders

Denotes Teams With Zero Cap Space or Less Than the Buccaneers

Any of the nine teams (including the Buccaneers) are in the mix for Godwin, and there’s a chance he could take a little pay cut to stay in Tampa Bay. However, the Bucs will have work to do to keep him. The Patriots, Raiders and Commanders all currently have over $100 million in cap space.

What to do With Chris Godwin in Dynasty Leagues

Whether Godwin stays with the Buccaneers or goes elsewhere, his value in dynasty leagues isn’t going to decline any time soon. His value will be higher with teams like the Buccaneers, the Commanders or even the Steelers.

If you don’t have Godwin on your team currently, it’s best to try and acquire him now before he signs in free agency. If you do have Godwin, he is someone you should be holding onto unless trading him helps fill a major need in your team. He will be 29 years old in 2025, and he is hitting his prime. He is a player everyone should be excited about moving forward.
