Washington rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels has propelled the franchise to heights they haven’t seen in quite some time. In just his first year, he’s got the Commanders cooking, sitting at 7-2 overall. He’s managed to play like the No. 2 overall pick, putting himself in front for Rookie of the Year honors. On Sunday in the Commanders-Giants game, Daniels and his old LSU teammate, Malik Nabers, got criticized for chatting it up in the middle of the game.
Myers began, “During the timeout, Nabers walked over to the sideline to talk to Jayden Daniels. I wonder what they were talking about. Big play in a division game? They did this in Week 2 after a third quarter, but I, I dunno…”
Sanchez jumped in. “Timing wise, let’s save this stuff for pre-game or post-game. During the game, I need you locked in. Ready for a potential fourth and one call. Not jawing with your buddy from college,” he explained.
Following the game, Nabers would not say what was discussed between the former LSU teammates. He and Daniels had the friendly exchange following an incomplete pass in the fourth quarter.
Daniels still had an efficient outing, finishing with over 230 all-purpose yards and two passing touchdowns. Nabers finished with nine catches for 59 receiving yards and no touchdowns on 11 targets. The Commanders prevailed on Sunday, 27-22. They could’ve potentially scored another time, but decided to kneel the ball in the final seconds when they were near the Giants goal line.
Washington moved to 7-2 overall for the first time since 1996. It’s an exciting time for their franchise, their fans, and the entire area. Jayden Daniels continues to shine as one of the league’s brightest stars. He’s completed 71.5% of his passes for 1,945 passing yards, while tossing in nine touchdowns and two interceptions. As a runner, he already has 82 carries for 459 yards and four touchdowns.
The talent for Daniels is undeniable. Body preservation and maintenance will be the keys for his longevity in the National Football League.
