Christopher Morel reveals how Cubs teammates helped him turn White Sox game around

No matter the records, it's always exciting when the Chicago White Sox and the Chicago Cubs get together. The two teams are currently playing a short two-game series at Wrigley Field, and the Cubs got the win in game one on Tuesday night. Cubs third baseman Christopher Morel had a big role in the game. He made a crucial error early that led to the White Sox taking the lead, but he also played a critical part in the Cubs' big comeback.

The White Sox are currently the worst team in baseball as they have a 15-46 record. Still, they came ready to play on Tuesday night and they jumped out to a big lead early. The White Sox led 5-0 at one point, but Christopher Morel and the Cubs found a way to get back in it.

Morel slugged a big two-run homer in the sixth inning to make it 5-3, and he also scored on a two-run double from Ian Happ in the eighth inning that won the Cubs the game. Morel's teammates were proud of the way that he responded after his unfortunate error.

“Super mature by him,” Patrick Wisdom said after the game, according to an article from MLB.com. “He could have kind of cashed it in, if you will, after the play. But we're there picking him up and he comes up with a big homer. He's just an exciting player to be around. I think he's built for those moments.”

There came a time in the game when Morel had the opportunity to make up for the error, and he did just that. Baseball is a game of failures, but Morel knows how to step up in the big moments.

“Those things happen,” Ian Happ said of the error. “A couple guys being able to talk to Morel and get him back to a place where, ‘Hey, man, you're a big part of this team. You're going to have big at-bats later in the game,’ [was big]. And he's done a great job of being able to turn the page throughout his career and come up with clutch hits.”

Christopher Morel was clearly down on himself after the error he committed in the fourth inning. There were runners on first and second with no outs, and had he fielded the ball cleanly, he likely would've been able to step on third and throw to first for an easy double play. The Cubs would've had two outs, and they could've easily gotten out of the inning unscathed. Instead, they scored five runs in the frame.

Morel's teammates picked him up after the mistake, and it helped him turn it on later in the game.

“I just really want to give a shoutout to my teammates,” Morel said via team translator Fredy Quevedo Jr. “They all came in and cheered me up. They gave me those words of consolation. That really helped me just to go out there and just come together as a team and then get the results.”

The Cubs and White Sox are back it on Wednesday for the final game of the two-game series. The game will get going at 7:05 CT and the Cubs are the favorite to win.
