CINCINNATI — The Chicago Bears are releasing defensive end DeMarcus Walker according to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune.
While he isn't a star, Walker could be an interesting target in free agency for the Bengals.
The 30-year-old was taken in the second round (51st overall) by the Broncos in the 2017 NFL Draft.
He spent four years in Denver, before making stops in Houston and Tennessee. He spent the past two years in Chicago.
Walker has at least 3.5 sacks in each of the past three seasons. He's listed at 6-4, 280 pounds and is a well-rounded player.
He has the size and versatility the Bengals look for in a defensive end. He can play the run and the pass.
It's worth noting that the Bengals or any NFL team can sign Walker once the transaction is officially processed by the NFL via the transaction wire.
That means the Bengals wouldn't have to wait until free agency starts next month to add him if they're interested in the veteran.
Don't be surprised if they kick the tires on Walker. Cincinnati needs to remake their defense and adding a proven veteran that can help bolster their pass rush and run defense would make a lot of sense.
