Coco Gauff reflects on the special experience of being at the TNT desk with Venus Williams and Sloane Stephens

   

Coco Gauff shared her excitement about being at the TNT desk alongside Venus Williams and Sloane Stephens, two players she has admired for years. She described the experience as surreal, emphasizing how much she looked up to both of them throughout her journey in tennis.

Recalling a memorable childhood moment, Gauff revealed that she had a birthday party at around 10 or 11 years old, and Stephens surprised her by showing up. She described the moment as unforgettable, making her feel like the “coolest kid ever” to have a professional player celebrate with her.

This is what she said: Coco: “It feels surreal. Venus is someone I looked up to for a long time, and Sloane too. I remember hitting with Sloane when I was like 8 years old. I had a birthday party at maybe 10 or 11.. she surprised me and showed up. I felt like the coolest kid ever having her come.

Just to be alongside the two of them is very cool. To have that moment wasn’t something I was expecting. Very honored that they were both enthusiastic for me to be there. Honestly, I was just probably more excited, too.” 

Being alongside Williams and Stephens at the desk was an honor for Gauff, as she expressed gratitude for their enthusiasm and warmth. The experience was unexpected yet deeply meaningful for her, reinforcing the strong connections within the tennis community. Her admiration for both players continues to inspire her own path in the sport, shaping her approach to competition and leadership.

Now ranked no.2 (career-high), Gauff achieved a compiled 28-8 match record in 2025. Gauff is now having a run at the French Open where she beat the world no.91 Olivia Gadecki 6-2 6-2, the world no.172 Tereza Valentova 6-2 6-4, the world no.47 Marie Bouzkova 6-1 7-6(3) and the world no.20 Ekaterina Alexandrova 6-0 7-5.

The American has won 1 title in 2025 in Australia. The American got to the final in Madrid (Mutua Madrid Open) and in Rome (Internazionali BNL d’Italia).
