Comeback win by Lions shows why this could finally be their year

Detroit Lions fans have longed for their team to be the last one standing at the end of an NFL season, and with Sunday night's comeback victory over the Houston Texans, this may finally be the year for Detroit to be Super Bowl champions.

Comeback win by Lions shows why this could finally be their year

Detroit coming back from being down 23-7 on Sunday night in a game in which quarterback Jared Goff threw five interceptions is a testament to how special and magical this season could potentially be.

The magical season for the Lions started long before Sunday night. Outside of the five-interception game from Goff, he has been magnificent so far this season, as he has a completion percentage of 71.4%, which puts him second just behind Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa.

It's not just Goff who has been brilliant, it's been the entire Lions offense. The unit ranks second in points per game, as well as top 10 in total yards per game and rushing yards per game.

That run game is headlined by a two-headed monster in David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs, with Gibbs carrying the load and averaging 80.8 rushing yards per game.

Another outstanding player on offense for Detroit is receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown. St. Brown is widely considered one of the best receivers in the league, and continues to prove that on a weekly basis, as he ranks second in the NFL in receiving touchdowns.

After scoring on Sunday, St. Brown now has a receiving touchdown in seven straight games, which is a new franchise record.

On the defensive side of the ball, the mood was somber after superstar defensive end Aiden Hutchinson went down for the season, but the Detroit defensive unit has stepped up in his absence, especially while pitching a second-half shutout against Houston on Sunday.

With Detroit's next four games being against the Jaguars, Colts, Bears and Packers, there is a high probability that it heads into a Week 15 showdown against the Bills with a 12-1 record.

The Lions seem to be the most close-knit team in the league, and the attitude and energy they put on the field every Sunday is unmatched. They are a team that truly fights for each other week in and week out.

Everything points towards the road to the Super Bowl in the NFC going through Detroit, and it seems there is no team, at this moment, that can go into Ford Field and beat the Lions in a playoff game.

With this group playing the way that they are, Detroit has a real chance of hoisting its first Lombardi Trophy in February.
