When the Washington Commanders traded for five-time Pro Bowler Laremy Tunsil, the franchise's left tackle position was upgraded.
But that signing meant that Brandon Coleman, who played both left tackle and left guard last season, would be pushed back in the depth chart.
Considering Jayden Daniels was sacked 47 times, the sixth-most in football, it made sense for Tunsil to be signed, but Coleman is now in limbo as to where he fits in Kliff Kingsbury's system.
However, head coach Dan Quinn has stated that Coleman will shift to the other side of the line and start the offseason at right tackle.
“Brandon Coleman will move to RT, Quinn said. "Will try him there first and see how it goes."
So Coleman will provide competition for fellow right tackle Andrew Wylie in a bid to shore up both sides of the line.
Tunsil will be the starter at left tackle, and in training camp, we envision Coleman and Wylie battling it out for the right tackle position. With the Commanders seeing themselves as NFC contenders, having a solid offensive line is paramount, considering how the league is moving toward a dominant defensive line theme now.
Daniels, while a rookie, was sacked too many times, and considering his slender build, having him protected better than he was last season has to be a high priority. Some mock drafts have the Commanders taking another left tackle in an attempt to further solidify the line, so it is clear it still remains a concern for the outer football world.
Coleman proved a solid option at left tackle last season, and now he will get his chance to nail down the starting right tackle role in 2025.
