Commanders Bobby Wagner Replacement Reveals Major Injury Concern

The Washington Commanders have an All-Pro middle linebacker leading the way on defense in Bobby Wagner.

Jihaad Campbell Scouting Report | NFL Draft 2025

As good as Wagner was in his first year in Washington - and throughout his career - he remains a 34-year-old veteran. That means the Commanders should be thinking about drafting a replacement sooner rather than later.

The top candidate for that role is Alabama's Jihaad Campbell. A first-round prospect, Campbell is dealing with something that could hurt his overall draft prospect, though.

The All-American is dealing with a pre-draft injury. Campbell's torn labrum recovery has been something many teams have been concerned with. While his talent is that of a top-15 player, the injury could push him into the late first round plan.

That is something ESPN's Field Yates said is keeping teams nervous.

"Alabama linebacker Jihaad Campbell's s labrum recovery is something teams are still sizing up. It's not because the injury is complex or an overly concerning procedure, but Campbell had the surgery right after the combine," Yates said. "Teams are still working to get as much information as they can about how ready Campbell will be for training camp or even the regular season. At full strength, I believe he's a top-20 player in this class, but don't be surprised if he slides into the late first or early second round."

If the Commanders really want to address their linebacker needs moving forward, then drafting one early in the 2025 draft may be the play.

They would need to figure out just how serious Campbell's injury truly is before making that decision, though.
