K.J. Osborn needs to prove he can be a dependable receiving option or he might be released in the next few months by the Washington Commanders.
In order to remain a legitimate Super Bowl contender, the Washington Commanders knew they would need to figure out a way to bolster their offense around their franchise quarterback.
Jayden Daniels' rookie season was one of the greatest in league history. Now, it's up to the Commanders to surround him with top talent moving forward.
In a way, they already did that with the trade of Deebo Samuel. With the Commanders bolstering their receiving room with an All-Pro like Samuel, though, one particular veteran may be on the chopping block.
In an article made by Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox, the Commanders' top cut candidate may very well be six-year NFL veteran receiver K.J. Osborn.
"Wide receiver K.J. Osborn had three very strong campaigns (1,845 combined receiving yards) with the Minnesota Vikings before he joined the Patriots last offseason," Knox wrote. "However, he failed to make much of a mark in New England and was waived by the Patriots, then claimed by the Washington Commanders.
"Osborn re-signed with Washington this offseason but is no lock to make the final 53."
It's not particuarly hard to see why Osborn would be on the outs in Washington. The team has seen an infusion of talent over the last offseason, and nothing will be guaranteed moving forward for anyone.
If the Commanders can get younger at key position groups like along the depth of the reciever position, there should be hope that they will be able to remain a contender for years to come.
Even if it means making Osborn a cut candidate.
